Mr. Sandeep Kumar is an officer of 1989 batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and belongs to
the city of Varanasi. He has completed his post-graduation in Ancient History and also studied
Sanskrit Literature and Political Science. He has worked in various capacities in Income Tax
Department at various places like Kanpur, Agra, Mumbai, Surat, Delhi and Lucknow and after
a long span of 35 years in the service of tax administration, retired as Chief Commissioner of
Income Tax from Bareilly. During his career, he has dealt with and solved a number of difficult
and complex cases of revenue including Harshad Mehta Security Scam matters wherein the
revenue of more than two thousand crores was collected by him. He dealt with the
Commodity Exchange Scam matters involving several thousand crores of rupees and has a vast
experience of dealing the cases of film industry wherein he contributed the guidance material
in tax matters to the departmental officers dealing with cinema world.
Mr. Sandeep Kumar has been deeply involved in the field of social service also. In the year of
2013, while posted as Commissioner of Income Tax at Surat, he had undergone the kidney
transplant. Since he himself gone through the suffering and pain and understood how difficult
it is for a person who goes through that phase he, therefore, didn’t want others to go through
the pain that he felt. With this aim, he established an NGO namely ‘Donate Life’ in Surat in
2014 and still involved in its activities as Vice-President. Till date, the NGO has been successful
in giving new lease of life through cadaver organ donations to more than 1500 persons in
Gujarat. On the same line, a new NGO namely ‘Aalamban Associates Charitable Trust’ has
been started by him in Lucknow to work in Uttar Pradesh in the field of ‘organ donation’
alongwith ‘health care of adolescent girls’ which is actively handled by the Secretary of NGO,
Dr. Sujata Deo, Prof. Gyn & Obst, KGMU, Lucknow. Through this NGO, awareness is being
spread in the society about organ donation so that the people come forward for this cause
and through this, large number of lives could be saved. He has also been involved in many
other social activities and in the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. His motto of life
has been as said by Mahatma Gandhi: ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the
service of others.’
Mr. Sandeep Kumar is an avid reader and has an excellent knowledge of Indian history and
culture. During his free time, loves capturing different moods of life through a passion for
photography, and plays sports like table tennis, badminton and cricket.
