A - ORGAN DONATION

Our primary objective, in order to serve the people, is through promotion and awareness about organ and tissue donation to save the lives of organ failure patients. It is learnt that, by an estimate, about 2 lakhs people in our country suffer from renal failure every year. Against it, (in 2022) only 11,423 people could get kidney transplants with 3,904 coming from living donors. Similarly, around 50,000 people suffer from liver failure or liver cancer every year, against which (in 2022) only 3,718 people could get their livers transplanted, with 2,957 coming from living donors. In the same way, about 50,000 people suffer from heart failure every year, but only 250 get new lease of life through heart transplants. Similar is the position in respect of other organ failure patients and the donors. The progress in the field of this life saving activity is so slow that the number of organ donors in our country increased from 6,916 in 2014 to 16,041 only in 2022. Sadly, this cadaver organ donation rate has been less than one donor per million people for a decade.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to bridge the gap between the number of people who need organs and the number of people who donate organs. We want to ensure that the maximum number of people come forward to pledge their organs for donation. We want to make people aware about the disease and to provide them a new lease of life through cadaver organ donations.

OUR AIM

To achieve the above objectives, our aims are to educate the public about organ and tissue donation; to engender a greater willingness amongst members of the public to donate their organs and tissues; to build a foundation of public trust and confidence and to instil a willingness and enthusiasm in the people to offer the gift of life through organ donation; to spread awareness in the public through mass media, public relations and direct interaction on issues relating to organ donation and transplantation; to provide participation opportunities to individuals and organizations through a volunteer network and wherever possible, to assist in advocating the challenges of organ transplant and delivery and to increase the number of possible transport and delivery incidences that are required, and to do all such things as are consistent with the foregoing objectives and aims.

(B) HEALTHCARE OF ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG WOMEN (10–24 YRS)

Our next aim is serving the society by taking care of the health of adolescent and young women (10–24 yrs). It is well known that the adolescence is a vital and very important stage of life, a passage from childhood to adulthood that marks the beginning of physical, psychological, and social transformation. The adolescent stage is where women begin their lives and has a significant influence on their future families and children. The adolescent account for a significant portion of our nation’s population and their health deserves careful consideration. The study shows that our country is home to 253 million adolescents, according to the 2011 census, and 47% of them are girls. They suffer from a high prevalence of anaemia, low awareness of sexual health, under nutrition and mental health issues. Nearly, three in every five adolescent Indian girls in the age-group of 10–19 have anaemia, compared to 28% boys, according to the fifth National Family Health Survey, conducted during 2019–2021. This underscores the unique health challenges faced by girls, which can lead to severe long-term health complications and impede cognitive and physical development.

OUR AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

In this area, our aim is empowering young girls to lead a more productive life by focusing on overall well-being through targeting their needs. We want to work towards empowering women’s autonomy over their sexual and reproductive health, mental health and meeting their dietary needs especially iron & folic acid. There is need of raising awareness about cancers and vaccinate adolescent & young women against HPV in order to prevent cervical cancer. Our aim is also to empower them by educating on employment-related skills and family welfare. Our trustees are already doing excellent work in this field and we want to take it further in a more effective and impactful manner.
